the girl K project

The girl K project- this project is a collaboration between movement, acoustic performance, and electroacoustic performance. It features sound projectionist/composer/engineer/ Nicholas Nelson, dancer Kanami Kusajima, and performer Ross Aftel. The creation of this project stemmed from a week-long concert and lecture series created by Aftel, focusing on the works of Xu Yi. During that week-long series, Aftel and Nelson put on Xu Yi’s 90-minute film score for 10 players and electronics for the 1927 Wu Yonggang film The Goddess, and Aftel and Kusajima also performing the US premiere of Saveur. The three performers decided to create an entire program built around the relationship between movement, percussion, and electroacoustic performance.

Xu Yi- "Saveur"

Malika Kishino- "Lebensfunke" (US Premiere)
Alex Smith- "Cotton Gindustrial"
Nick Nelson- "Every time a passing train made the earth shake, the surface of the water used to ripple delicately, concentrically, and in utter silence. But it was not only the earth that shook for us: the air around and above us was alive and signaling too."
Anthony Braxton- "Composition 40N"
Tomoko Momiyama- "Ballade for Lost Waters" (New, Long Island Version/Premiere)
